Hello and happy Monday!
This week I’m in recovery mode after a super busy trip to Houston with my boyfriend, Craig. We were gone for about 5 days and while we had a lot of fun, it was exhausting driving 5 hours to get everywhere. Okay, maybe that’s a little bit of an exaggeration but the thing about Houston is that it does take 25 to 30 minute to get to most place and it can be incredibly difficult if there’s any traffic.
An example? My sweet, dear boyfriend dropped me off at The Galleria so I could have an extra half hour to shop while he parked. He staggered into the mall about 45 minutes after he dropped me off and looked exhausted. I was pretty grateful he didn’t lose it on me. =)
Needless to say, as much as we adore and LOVE Houston, we’re pretty content in Lincoln, Nebraska. The cost of living is amazing and I can grab a $6 beer, get anywhere in the city in about 10 to 5 minutes no matter what time of day and get a manicure for $15.
However, there is one thing Lincoln DOESN’T have that Houston does: Nordstrom.
The closest Nordstrom to me is about 3 and a half hours away in Kansas City. And, while my lovely boyfriend and I have taken the trip down there to shop at the store in person, it’s not a drive we like to do often.
So, while I was in Houston, shopping at Nordstrom was on my list of things I wanted to do. And, on this trip I found some super cute stuff and all of the things I bought are affordable pieces.
First of all, Nordstrom has a variety of cute, trendy sunglasses like the ones I’m wearing below, for only $12 a pair. I’m not someone who drops a lot of cash on sunglasses because I feel like I always lose them. This pair is super stylish and I think the quality is great! If you’re stocking up for summer, definitely check Nordstrom out.
I also bought my new FAVORITE top, the Sun & Shadow floral print bell sleeve blouse for $55 and I’m absolutely swooning over it. I paired it with some skinny jeans, nude heel and a fringe purse that I bought from Forever 21 for a brunch date with the boyfriend. The top hugs my body in all the right places and I could tell it’s popular, because I bought the last size at the store in Houston. And, right now there’s only a large left online! There’s still some left in stores and you could also stalk eBay to see if it turns up somewhere else. Also, I know Nordstrom restocks the popular items so definitely keep your eye on it!
My last fabulous find from my Nordstrom trip was a jacket that I’ll never take off! It’s TOPSHOP and it’s the Nelly Faux Leather Biker Jacket. It’s on sale right now for $60 and fully stocked in most sizes. It’s comfortable and when I wore it to work, everyone thought I spent the $400 on a real leather jacket. And, I can pair it with my nude heels and a t-shirt dress over jeans for a cold day (like when it’s 50 degrees outside in April and you think it’s almost spring but you live in Nebraska).
That’s it for this trip! I told myself I couldn’t spend more than $150 at Nordstrom on this trip because I really wanted to see how far my dollar could go there, and honestly, I thought my dollars were well spent. Everything I bought was high quality and I price checked it all and Nordstrom’s prices were lowest! Another tip of the day for you: Nordstrom price matches competitors.
If you’re shopping there and you find something cheaper online, just show the lower price to the cashier at the register and they’ll price match the item for you in store (you can do it online too).
That’s it for me this Monday! Later this week I’ll be sharing how I saved $100 this month using an app on my phone and more adventures from my trip in Houston!
