Save at Sephora
If you know me personally then you know that I’m a Sephora nut and getting my makeup done there is one of my favorite things to do! I’ve been going to the local Sephora inside JCPenney’s for almost 3 years and I love getting makeovers before parties, events or before I shoot for the blog with Joshua Redwine (aka the best photographer ever).
I always look at anything I do frequently that takes money and ask, “is there a way to save?” Before last week, there were only 2 places I had NOT found any loopholes for: Sephora and Starbucks. But ladies and gentleman, I’m happy to tell you that now I’ve got only one place left on that list.
The Sephora addiction is real for all of us and unfortunately, Sephora only gives out coupons twice a year and the coupons are fairly measly, usually only a 15% off of a $50 purchase. Hey, I understand their business model. That place is locked and loaded with amazing beauty tools and they don’t need to discount it to women who will spend the money on them anyways. But I’ve figured out 3 amazing ways you can save!
- Sephora locations inside of a JCPenney are required to accept JCPenney gift cards and guess what? You can always find discounts on those. I’ve already tested this out for you! If you go to Cardpool.com you’ll find discounted gift cards for JCPenney. The gift cards typically have a 20% discount because they are being resold for cash by other people who received them and don’t want them. After you purchase the gift card (and if you want a $5 credit on the site, then use my referral link https://refer.cardpool.com/s/Natalie10), and you get it emailed to you, it’s ready for use within 24 to 48 hours and you can print it off and take it right into the store. To test this out, I bought a $40 JCPenney gift card for $30 and then used it in Sephora and I was so thrilled that it worked! I’ll never shop there without doing this beforehand.
- Raise your hand if you’ve gone to a salon, paid to have your hair and makeup done and then shuttered a little bit when you hand your credit card over to pay for it at the end of your appointment? I know I sure have. You pay $50 for a makeover but you don’t even get to keep any of the products that make you look great! At Sephora, if you purchase $50 in product and schedule ahead, your makeover is free. I do this ALL the time (if it’s Christmas time and I’m purchasing a present for a friend, I can get my makeup done and treat myself too HA) and I love that I get to keep the products they’ve used on me. I always schedule with Dakota or Stephanie at the Lincoln JCPenny in Nebraska; when I travel out-of-state for weddings etc, I just book my appointment on the app and get my makeup done at the closest Sephora where I am. Sephora’s makeup artists go through a LOT of training and I’ve rarely had a mishap. It’s a great experience.
3. Okay the last pro tip I have for you is this: track your points and if you’re thinking about going VIB Rouge (that’s the top level of the Sephora rewards program), WAIT until the first of the year. It turns out that if you wait until after the first of the year you’re VIB Rouge, for a FULL year. There’s a lot of perks to Sephora’s rewards program and most of the best perks are part of the Rouge package. If you’re rouge (you’ve spent at least $1,000 in one year) you get free one-hour makeover sessions whenever you want! Also, you get exclusive invites to Sephora events and free shipping online. If you’re someone who has a lot of work events and you want to look like Kim Kardashian at every single one, this is the package for you. In my opinion, it does SAVE you money if you get your makeup done all the time. I plan to spend my $1,000 in January by purchasing a gift card and then schedule out all of my makeovers in advance. At each of my makeovers, I can purchase what I know or think I need with my gift card. I did calculate this out — and I spend about a $1,000 every year on makeup, so I might as well get more bang for my buck!
That’s it, guys. Three easy ways right above to save every time you shop there!
Also, this ends soon, but in the next couple of days if you make a purchase at Sephora, they are giving out 20% coupons that you can use starting October 14th! Combine that coupon with a JC Penney gift card that you buy on CardPool and you can stock up and get a 40% discount total. If you’ve been waiting to snag something at Sephora, now is the time.
AND wait — one more way to snag a FREE Sephora gift card? Verizon is offering $5 gift cards to customers who download their new VerizonUP app on their phones. I did it and immediately got that as my reward and it took me about 60 seconds to do.
