A skinny moscow mule

So every year I attempt to make January my “dry” month where I don’t drink anything and usually about a week into my grand effort, I have a moment where I’m craving a drink that will help me unwind. I’m a big fan of Moscow Mules because I love how the drink combines sweet and tart flavors. BUT I’ve never thought my copper mugs at home would be put to good use because that drink is complicated AF to make.

Recently, I made friends with two of the people who run Lincoln’s newest O St. bar, The Copper Kettle. The bar specializes in Moscow mules with a rotating drink menu of 10 to 12 Moscow Mule variations. Needless to say, I’ve been there like 10 times since it opened so it was easy to make friends with the people who run the place. 🙂 I asked Mackenzie Madison, the manager of the bar, “how the heck can I do this at home and make it somewhat healthy?”Luckily, Mack had an answer and a dang good one. Cut out the ginger beer with the sugar and use real ginger! So friends, this drink may take a few minutes to prep, but here is a skinny Moscow Mule drink recipe that will give you a delicious cocktail under 200 calories. The list of ingredients and recipe is below…Enjoy!

  1. Peel and cut the ginger and limes
  2. Muddle the ginger in your copper mug.
    You don’t have to smash the ginger, just squeeze the oils out of what you’re muddling. You could use something with a flat edge to get the oils out.
  3. Add ice to your copper mug and pack that ice in there!
  4. You  measure three quarters of an ounce of Ketel One vodka and Ketel Citroen (use a jigger to measure.)
  5. Add vodka, squeezed lime juice and soda water to your copper mug.
  6. Enjoy with friends!

  • Ginger
  • Ketel One vodka and Ketel Citroen
  • Jigger
  • Lime
  • Copper mugs
  • Ice
  • Muddler ( I saw a super cute one at Target so consider getting one there.)
  • Calories: About 172 per serving
